During the session, we will present examples of communities working closely with citizens on various urban and rural concerns, including river rejuvenation, environment and climate, agriculture, and healthcare. Notably, many of these initiatives are led by women. IEEE teams are also actively involved in supporting these efforts. Additionally, we will highlight the contributions of IEEE WIE to Smart Cities initiatives.

Dr. Surekha Deshmukh, Domain Consultant at IOTDE Unit, TCS Pune

At TCS, She contributes in advising Engineering as well as Data Analytics and AI enabled solution building for global Electricity industry. She leads consulting engagement in creating a roadmap of Sustainable business transformation.

Dr Surekha is conferred with “TCS Contextual Master award” in 2023 for her significant technical contribution in enhancing customer relationship and delivering business outcomes. She is a winner of TATA Innovista Special Mention Award in year 2023. As Energy and Sustainability expert, she represents TCS at various industry forums at National and International level.

Dr Surekha is a senior member of IEEE (Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers), USA and currently a Chair of IEEE Pune Section. She participated at COP28 at Dubai in 2023 as IEEE delegation. At IEEE global level, she contributes as a Chair of WIE Committee of IEEE Smart Cities and Chair -Committee of Technology for Sustainable Climate. She also  contributes to professional organizations as IEEMA, IESA, ISGF.

At IEEE, she is awarded with “IEEE Women in Power Award”, “India Council Outstanding Volunteer Award”, and “IEEE PES Outstanding Engineer Award”. IEEMA recognised her contribution with conferring “Women in Energy Award” in 2022, and IESA awarded her “Most Influential Woman Leader in Indian Power Sector” award in 2023.

Her areas of interest are Sustainability, Climate Change, Energy Transition, Decarbonization.
